Writing Workshops

Why take a multi-week workshop?

When we learn new skills, we need time to assimilate the knowledge, to let it seep into and enhance our writing.

Workshops are an opportunity to focus on a subject over a longer period of time. During that time you will be able to learn more about a genre and develop your craft through in-class writing and submit work for feedback from the instructor and fellow participants.

We'd love to hear your suggestions for workshops you'd like to see on offer. We'll track down a qualified instructor to make it happen.

The Silence in the Poem
Poetry Workshop (advanced)

Poetry, formed of language and music, arises out of silence, while silence remains a powerful force within the poem. In architecture and visual arts, “white space” has its own shape and size; in music the pause resonates with its own energy.

In this four-week workshop learn how to find, maintain and drive the silence in your work in order to deepen the nature and experience of your work.

White Fire: The Spaces
Between Words

Poetry Workshop
Bibliotherapy (Experiential) Workshop
Join award-winning poet Jane Medved in a series of six workshops, in which we will examine various techniques to outwit our rational brain and “write ahead of our conscious minds." We will study other writers and put into practice the art of startling ourselves.

Class time will be spent on editing and refining our own poems, as well as generating new material. This workshop is for writers with experience.

The Torah is said to have been written as black fire on white fire. We will be dealing with the realm of the white fire, the spaces between the words.

Writing in this workshop will center on the ways we engage with texts, the ways we "write" them. The writing exercises will be suitable even for those with less writing experience but with a love for words. Since this is a process-oriented, rather than a product-oriented way of working, with each session emerging from what transpired in the former session, the workshop will take place over eight weeks.
