Everyone has a story to tell . . . now is the time to write it!

Is it memoir? Is it fiction? A novel or short story?

Go for it! What are you waiting for?

RULE NUMBER ONE

I DON'T NEED TO KNOW MORE, I'M IN!

BE BRILLIANT

Perhaps something is holding you back?

You can never find the time to sit and write?

You sit down to write and feel you've lost your creative mojo?

An inner critic attacks every word you write so all you're left with is a blank page?

Picture

As I've experienced all of these at some point, I teach you how to:
* create pockets of time to write
* fire up your creativity & always have something to write
* keep the inner critic in check

During the course you'll:
* heighten your observational skills
* read like a writer
* recognise the different elements of storytelling
* identify and work to your writing strengths

* share your work
* give & receive constructive critique
* create a community of like-minded writers

(or In the Story Foundations workshop you'll
•Explore the writer’s toolkit: learning to name, recognise, and practise the different elements of storytelling.
•Learn what storytelling elements come naturally to you, writing to your strengths and adding new elements.
•Read as a writer: you will understand how stories are constructed (without losing the magic) and learn to offer constructive critique of work in progress.
•Meet like-minded writers and form a community.)

Story Foundations will give OXYGEN to the writer within

Just dedicating TIME and SPACE to learning the craft of writing, nurturing your writing style, and committing to create within a supportive environment will help your stories emerge.

You'll learn and experiment with the elements of the writer's toolkit:

  • character: to create characters that feel real and how to portray yourself as a character
  • point of view and narration
  • description: to bring all the senses into one's writing
  • setting: to locate the reader in time and space
  • story arc and plot: to take your reader on a journey
  • narrative and story time: to speed up and slow down time for effect
  • voice: how the author and characters speak
  • rhythm and pace of sentences and scenes
COUNT ME IN!
Each week, participants will hone specific skills through
  • readings
  • discussion
  • in-class writing exercises
  • sharing work

You'll share writing exercises for immediate feedback and submit an edited piece for peer review with a constructive critique (too many writers are damaged by unhelpful critique).

FREE YOUR WORDS

Hi! I'm Nadia

I was the teenager whose parents got concerned calls from the English teacher because she believed what I wrote in my creative writing exercises. While this should have given me confidence ('Great, I write convincing prose!'), I felt exposed and this sent me underground for years. I wrote on the sly or sent postcard fiction with outrageous holiday tales to friends and family before it was a "thing". This formative experience made me passionate about helping writers write whatever they wanted to write and in a safe and supportive environment.
+ MA in English Literature & Creative Writing, Bar-Ilan University + certificates in coaching and in EFT
+ published fiction and memoir in literary journals & anthologies
* fiction editor at the Ilanot Review
* two interweaving novels are in the works

What Story Foundation graduates say

Anya S. 'Story Foundations is much more than a creative writing workshop. Beyond giving me tools to enrich my writing, it triggered a process of self-discovery that led me to uncover my deepest passions and true desires.'

Phoebe Deklerk: 'I’ve been writing quite a bit since the course finished, which I have to say was amazing. I feel it’s opened up an aspect of me that I didn’t know I had.’ -

Tanya M: 'Nadia is a fantastic writing teacher. She cultivates a very warm and encouraging environment for writers. Her teaching style encourages one to dig deep and discover their writing potential. Her classes transformed my attitude to writing and motivated me to keep going.’

Sari Nossbaum: ‘Nadia's course was deeply inspiring and reinforced why I love the craft of writing. And even more importantly, it motivated me to invest more time in my writing. The prompts and exercises during class were challenging in ways I didn't expect (in a positive way) and proved that magic can sometimes materialize in just ten minutes. It was such a treat to delve into the complexity and layers of writing and analyze different texts and ideas. And this in turn taught me how to be a more astute reader. The class provided a safe space to share work - which is both confronting and necessary to grow as a writer. Nadia taught me that I won't have great writing days every day, or even every other day, and that's OK... as long as I persist. I highly recommend this course for anyone who is an aspiring or experienced writer. No matter what your level, everyone can gain something from this course.'

FAQs
How do I know if this is the right workshop for me?
I want you to be sure that this is the right course for you. If you have any doubts, let's chat.
Drop me a line or fix a time for us to chat.

Why am I required to submit a sample of my writing?
I want to make absolutely sure that this is the right choice for you. For that I need to know where you are in your writing journey I ask for a small sample of writing - as little as 500 words or as long as 1000 words - to gauge your command of English and your level of writing. It will also help me tailor the course to each person's needs.

What happens if I miss a session?
It happens to the best of us. We make plans and life gets in the way. I get it. That's why I record sessions and you're welcome to watch or listen to a digital recording for up to two weeks afterwards.

I've never written creatively before. Is this the right workshop for me?
We have all written in some form on another. If you are passionate about writing and want to write creatively, I would love to support you in any way I can. Email me or schedule a time to chat and we’ll figure out what will move you forward on your writing journey.

What is a live online workshop?
A live online workshop means joining a video conference. It means you can attend the workshop virtually from the comfort of your own home. All you need, to be a part of the conversation are headphones, and access to video and audio on your phone or computer. Download the latest version on Zoom. You'll receive an invite to join the Zoom meeting via email. If you can't make it, you can always watch or listen to the recording.
